Below are the quotes that were used in the video.
These sections are two of the best in the Doctrine and Covenants. I love to read the dedicatory prayer for the Kirtland temple (section 109) and look for the many blessings that are given for attending the temple. Joseph Smith taught that the blessings of the temple "will be worth remembering. .. You need an endowment ...in order that you may be prepared and able to over come all things.”
Some Scriptures telling Missionaries to Wait until they have Received their Endowment
- D&C 38:23-33, 38 Endowed then go forth.
- D&C 43:11,16 Sanctify yourself and then endowed.
- D&C 95:8-9 Tarry until endowed.
- D&C 105:33, 35-36 Those chosen shall be sanctified in the temple.
Joseph Smith: “The endowment you are so anxious about you cannot comprehend now . . . we must be clean every whit . . . do not watch for iniquity in each other if you do you will not get an endowment for God will not bestow it on such; but if we are faithful .. . I will venture to prophesy that we shall get a . . . blessing that will be worth remembering if we should live as long as John the Revelator, our blessings will be such as we have not realized before, nor in this generation.. .. You need an endowment brethren in order that you may be prepared and able to over come all things.” (The Papers of Joseph Smith, ed. Dean C. Jessee, 2 vols. (Salt Lake City: Deseret Book, 1992), 2:77)
Joseph Smith: “The doors were then opened, Presidents Rigdon, Cowdery and myself seated the congregation as they came in, and, according to the best calculation we could make, we received between nine and ten hundred, which were as many as could be comfortably seated. We then informed the doorkeepers that we could receive no more.” (History of the Church Vol 2 Ch. 29)

Teaching Idea: Share verses / phrase and then explain. This may help…
- A blessing that would help a teen who is going through a hard time.
- A blessing that would help a teen facing temptation.
- A blessing that would help a teen who is struggling to get along with parents/siblings.
- A blessing you have experienced.
- A blessing you want to experience.
- What principle do you feel the Lord is trying to teach us?
- What do you feel impressed to do because of your study today?
3 Verses from “The Spirit of God”
The Spirit of God like a fire is burning;
The latter day glory begins to come forth;
The visions and blessings of old are returning;
The angels are coming to visit the earth.
We'll sing & we'll shout with the armies of heaven:
Hosanna, hosanna to God and the Lamb!
Let glory to them in the highest be given,
Henceforth and forever: amen and amen!
We'll wash, and be wash'd, and with oil be anointed
Withal not omitting the washing of poet:
For he that receiveth his penny appointed,
Must surely be clean at the harvest of wheat.
We'll sing & we'll shout with the armies of heaven:
Hosanna, hosanna to God and the Lamb!
Let glory to them in the highest be given,
Henceforth and forever: amen and amen!
Old Israel that fled from the world for his freedom,
Must come with the cloud and the pillar, amain:
A Moses, and Aaron, and Joshua lead him,
And feed him on manna from heaven again.
We'll sing & we'll shout with the armies of heaven:
Hosanna, hosanna to God and the Lamb!
Let glory to them in the highest be given,
Henceforth and forever: amen and amen!
Hosanna: “Save now.” The word is taken from Ps. 118:25, one of the Psalms of the Hallel. The chanting of this psalm was connected at the Feast of Tabernacles with the waving of palm branches; hence the use of the word by the multitudes at our Lord’s triumphal entry into Jerusalem (Matt. 21:9, 15; Mark 11:9–10; John 12:13). (Hosanna, Bible Dictionary).
Hosanna Shout:
- Job 38 – Pre-Existence - When the foundations of the earth were laid, and when all the sons of God shouted for joy.
- Zachariah 9:9 - Prophecy of Jesus Christ riding into Jerusalem seated on "the foal of an ass.“ (see Matthew 21:1-9 and John 12:12-16)
- 1 Thessalonians 4:16 – “For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:
President Russell M. Nelson: “This sacred shout was first given in this dispensation at the dedication of the Kirtland Temple on March 27, 1836. It is now given at the dedication of each temple. It is a sacred tribute to the Father and the Son, symbolizing the reaction of the multitude when the Savior made His triumphal entry into Jerusalem.
“It also reaffirms what young Joseph experienced that day in the Sacred Grove—namely, that the Father and the Son are two glorified Beings, whom we worship and praise.” (https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/general-conference/2020/04/46nelson?lang=eng)
Heber C. Kimball: “During the ceremonies of the dedication, an angel appeared and sat near President Joseph Smith, Sen., and Frederick G. Williams, so that they had a fair view of his person. He was a very tall personage, black eyes, white hair, and stoop shouldered; his garment was whole, extending to near his ankles; on his feet he had sandals. He was sent as a messenger to accept of the dedication.” (Life of Heber C. Kimball p 91)
“Joseph being in the speaking stand next below--rose and testified that midway during the prayer an holy angel came and seated himself in the stand. When the afternoon meeting assembled, Joseph, feeling very much elated, arose the first thing and said the personage who had appeared in the morning was the Angel Peter come to accept the dedication." (Autobiography of Truman O. Angell)
President Nelson: What does the gathering of Israel look like? 1.“As you work together to remodel your home into a sanctuary of faith—filled with learning together from the home-centered, Church-supported curriculum—that is gathering Israel. 2.“As you parents create experiences where your children can learn to feel the Spirit of the Lord—that is gathering Israel. 3.“As you do family history, serve and worship in the temple, use your discretionary time to draw closer to Heavenly Father and to His Son and to help someone else do the same—that is gathering Israel. 4.“As you help to strengthen the testimonies of others, as you repent and help others to repent, as you reach out in your communities and participate in worthy efforts to alleviate suffering—that is gathering Israel.” (https://www.lds.org/church/news/president-nelson-invites-record-crowd-in-arizona-to-help-gather-israel?lang=eng)
Teaching Thoughts:
- .Ask class to come prepared to share blessings that they have received for temple worship.
- Give time to read 109:10-26 and look for blessings of temple worship.
- Provide a handout of the program for the Kirtland Temple Dedication so that you can quickly go over the background and focus on what matters most to your group.
